The Top Spots for Boat Trips

The Algarve boast a stunning selection of beaches, coves and Marinas for your boating day out. Here we list some of the top attractions on the Algarve coast.

Discover the Algarve by Yacht Charter

The Algarve is the strip of land on the southern edge of the Portuguese mainland and home to some of Europe's finest beaches and coastline. The southern facing Algarve coast stretches approximately 150km from the Spanish border westwards and features an incredibly diverse coastline for such a small region. The Algarve attracts tourists from accross the globe and offers a warm welcome, great weather and scenery to take your breath away!

If you are visiting the Algarve then an absolute must to fit into your itinerary is a boat trip. The only way to truly appreciate the coastline in all its beauty is from the ocean side. As we travel westward from the Spanish border we begin with soft white sandy beaches, then the famous Ria Formosa Natual Park, which are a series of islands and sandbanks offering great chances to observe marine and bird life along with exploration by kayak or SUP.

From the Ria Formosa westward we have again lovely long stretches of beach as we come across resorts like Vale Do Lobo and Quinta Do Lago, which are home to many of Europe's rich and famous. We then hit Vilamoura which is home to the largest marina in Portugal and is the home of the majority of the luxury charter boats that cruise the coastline. Vilamoura is ideally situated in the centre of the Algarve and at the point the topography changes from flat sandy stretches to the more dramtic sandstone cliffs begining at Falesia Beach.

From Falesia beach heading westward again we pass Olhos d´Água, Albufeira and Galé, each with their own individual charm and character. We then arrive at one of the top attractions on the Algarve coast, Benagil Cave. Benagil Cave is quite unique and one of those places that you simply must see, where it's only possible to enter the cave from the sea, so a Boat Tour is the best way to discover this gem. The Boat Trips leaving from Vilamoura and the Luxury Yachts often stop off at Benagil Cave where they enter the cave with the nose of the boat so that you can take some photos inside. It's a great experience, and the journey to Benagil cave from Vilamoura itself offers some equally spectacular scenes. If the sea is calm you will be holding your breath as the skippers take you within touching distance of the rock formations. On the luxury boats and in good sea conditions the skipper can actually take you inside some of the caves on the main boat, truly providing an unforgettable experience.

Near Benagil Cave we have Carvoeiro and Armacao da Pera, which are coastal towns with lovely beaches and lively coffeeshop cultures.

We then enter the region from Portimao and Ferragudo down the coast past Alvor and Lagos towards Sagres and the Cabo de Sao Vicente, the most westward point of mainland Europe.

All in all, the coastline has so much to offer, and we believe discovering the Algarve By Boat has to be the way to go. There are many kinds of Boat Tours available, and here at Timeless Yacht Charters we specialise in Private Luxury Boat Tours. We have been organising trips along the Algarve coast since 2016, so let us take care of the details and put together the best itinerary for you.
